KZN police beef up security measures ahead of MTN8 final in Durban

Police in KwaZulu-Natal said that security measures were in place ahead of the MTN8 final in Durban on Saturday evening.

Thousands of supporters are expected to make their way to the Moses Mabhida Stadium for the match between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch Football Club.

Police and other law enforcement agencies will be keeping a close eye on the event.

Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda: “Over 50,000 people are expected to fill up the stadium, and accommodation as well as entertainment facilities in Durban are also expected to experience an influx of visitors and patrons. For that reason, police visibility by both metro and SAPS officers will be heightened and no lawlessness will be tolerated.”

He said that stop and search points would be operational in the area.

“Although no road closures have been planned, motorists must expect spontaneous police-manned stop and searches in and around the city. This will be done to ensure that all vehicles which will be in and around the city are cleared of any prohibited items.”
