KZN police & community policing groups equipped with tools to quell rampant crime

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police have welcomed the crime-fighting tools from the provincial government.
The KZN government on Friday handed over 85 new vehicles and other crime-fighting essentials to members of the South African Police Service that community policing structures will use.
This comes as the province has seen an alarming increase in crime.
Just this week, police in the province shot and killed nine suspected criminals in Mariannhill, west of Durban.
The KZN government has spent R32 million on new cars, and crime-fighting tools including uniforms and torches for community policing forum members.
Police in the province have welcomed the gesture wholeheartedly.
“We are convinced that initiatives such as these Premier, will go a long way in supporting the police in our endeavours and strategies in the fight against crime,” said provincial Deputy Police Commissioner Phumelele Makhoba.
Makhoba added that it would take more than police to fight crime in the province.
