Bids for tenders have been opened to build shelters for those displaced by flooding in KZN but Corruption Watch says transparency is needed to ensure contractors are not corrupt.
It says the government should have learnt from COVID-19 relief efforts.
Corruption Watch’s Mashudu Masutha said: “The relaxation of procurement processes can, like we have seen with the COVID-19 pandemic, create vulnerabilities of corruption.
“What we are saying as Corruption Watch is that if there is going to be relaxations we need to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic by showing transparency of not only goods and services that are going to be needed.
“But, transparency of who is allocated the tender, who are the owners of the business that is going to provide goods and services.”
“Importantly, to have an audit of the entity that will be providing the services but the service itself are those goods and services of good standard after the fact.”
