KwaZulu-Natal COGTA warns residents to stay indoors over the next few days

The Cooperative Governance Department in KwaZulu-Natal has warned residents to stay indoors over the next few days – as inclement weather conditions are expected to persist.

On Friday night, a number of motorists and commuters were stranded on the N3 highway after being blocked by heavy snowfall.

Disaster management teams have since been dispatched to attend to the situation and also provide humanitarian aid.

COGTA MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi has urged residents to be safe.

“The warning is still that people must stay at home for the next few days, up until we can see weather improving.”

Buthelezi says recent weather patterns have proven the reality around climate change – saying the government still has a lot to do in this regard.

“Climate change is reality and going forward as government we will now have to plan as to how we respond to these issues even before they happen.”

At the same time heavy rain is set to hit parts of the province this weekend.
