KZN ANC condemns assault on volunteer during KwaXimba rally

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal condemned an assault on one of its volunteers during a rally in KwaXimba.

Hundreds of supporters gathered on Sunday in one of the eThekwini region’s largest ANC strongholds.

However, the emergence of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, backed by former President Jacob Zuma, has transformed the area into a political battleground following the new outfit’s significant showing in January.

ANC’s provincial spokesperson, Mafika Mndebela, quashed claims of a political brawl after a photographer was stabbed during the event.

“What was initially suspected to be a shooting incident, the South African Police Service has established that it could’ve been an assault. A photographer on duty was allegedly stabbed with a tiny, sharp object.

“This was further corroborated by medical personnel. We wish the victim a speedy recovery and prefer to refer all enquiries to the police.”
