Electricity restored in Kwa-Thema after month-long outage

Power has finally been restored to Kwa-Thema on the East Rand after residents were left without electricity for a month.
The area has been without power since May after a fire engulfed the local substation.
This led to multiple violent protests in the area, with some municipal offices being burnt down in the process.
The City of Ekurhuleni said the repairs to the substation are ongoing.
To avoid overloading, the City has implemented load reduction, which will see residents without electricity for four hours daily.
The City said it was currently not under Eskom’s normal load-shedding schedule, which is why residents get the daily outages even when load-shedding is suspended.
It said load reduction helped to take pressure off the substation while repairs continued.
Residents in the area have protested multiple times since the power outage started.
