Krugersdorp community living in fear

While police have made over 80 arrests in the course of investigations into a shocking gang rape and robbery in Krugersdorp, the people of West Village say they live in fear in their own homes.

They say they’ve been terrorized by illegal miners for years.

They are now requesting that the army intervene.

The small community with roughly 400 homes is surrounded by seven mine shafts and multiple dumps they claim are a hotbed for illegal mining.

On Friday, police responded to a horrific gang rape at one of the area’s mine dumps.

According to SAPS, the women were raped repeatedly.

Over 80 suspects are in custody and they are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp magistrate’s court on Monday.
