State confident investigation into alleged KMPG fraudster Moema will lead to guilty verdict

The State said it’s confident that its investigations into alleged KPMG bursary fraudster Fidelis Moema will lead to a guilty verdict.

Between 2019 and 2022, Moema allegedly made 431 fraudulent transactions, totalling R16.5 million, to several companies linked to his friends and girlfriends.

Moema and two of his alleged accomplices applied for bail on Thursday at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.

The trio argued they would be prejudiced if they were kept behind bars for the duration of the trial as they expected it to be lengthy.

However, prosecutor Valencia Dube said the State opposed the trio being released on bail.

“It is to this court to show that these crimes do not pay by ensuring the accused remains in custody pending the finalization of this trial.

“The investigations in this matter are at an advanced stage and the trial should be able to commence at an early opportune.”
