A celebration of a life short-lived. That’s how Thando “DJ Tot” Sibi’s funeral service on Saturday, 14 August, was described by mourners.

Although his family was visibly grief-stricken, they watched as DJ Tot’s friends bid him farewell by singing and dancing around his coffin.

They cried, laughed and chanted his favourite phrase: “Peace, Magents”.

Many described him as a joker and someone who always lifted their moods.

They said he was a jolly person who didn’t hesitate to show affection and love, even to his male friends.

“That guy kissed us to irritate us. He said love had no limits. Imagine if he treated guys with so much love, what more with women. He was a natural lover and many were drawn to his spirit,” said one of his friends.

His friend, Nyiko Tembe, said he was very broken and couldn’t believe his friend was gone so soon.

“It still doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t know if it ever will. I’m happy for the love we’ve shared and all the good times. I’ve learnt to appreciate the ones close to me and not to shy away from my feelings anymore. May all our friends rest in perfect peace and watch over us wherever they are,” said Nyiko.

Lwazi Zondo, who said she was like a sister to Thando and his other friends who were involved in the fatal accident, said she wasn’t coping.

“I loved those boys and they knew it. I showed them and they returned the love.

What breaks me is that I knew all their plans and promised to help them make things happen because we all believed in each other. It’s hard and very painful but I pray they all rest in perfect peace.”
