President Ramaphosa assures no crisis at SARS as Kieswetter’s term of office nears end

President Cyril Ramaphosa said there’s no crisis at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) as Commissioner Edward Kieswetter’s term comes to an end without a replacement.

Ramaphosa said he’s asked Kieswetter to stay on a bit longer so that a proper transition can happen.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the Presidential Golf Challenge in Cape Town on Friday which traditionally comes the day after the State of the Nation Address.

“His term is coming to an end, and I’ve asked him to stay on so that we can ensure that a number of the measures that he’s putting in place are bedded down and that a proper transition can then take place. So there’s no crisis, nobody should have any form of angst.”

He also commended Kieswetter saying he was happy with his performance and how he “revived SARS from the grips of state capture”.
