Police arrest suspect after kidnapped woman found dead in KZN! KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of a 21-year-old woman who went missing on Christmas Day and was later found dead. The suspect was apprehended on Saturday after a thorough police investigation.
Details of the Incident
The young woman was last seen in the early hours of Christmas Day leaving a restaurant in Umhlanga, Durban, accompanied by a male companion. Her failure to return home prompted her family to report her missing, leading to a police investigation.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that a kidnapping case was opened soon after her disappearance.
“Thorough police investigations uncovered the identity of the man who was seen leaving the establishment with the missing woman,” Netshiunda said.
Further inquiries revealed that the man, who was also her manager, had taken her to his home in the Amaotana area of Inanda.
A Disturbing Discovery
According to police reports, an argument reportedly broke out between the two at the suspect’s home. During the altercation, the man allegedly strangled the young woman to death and buried her body in his yard.
Police investigations eventually led to the grim discovery, and the suspect was arrested. He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of kidnapping, murder, and defeating the ends of justice.
Police Efforts and Appeal
Colonel Netshiunda praised the investigative team for their diligent work in solving the case, which has shocked the local community. Authorities have also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent such tragedies.
Foreign Nationals Arrested for Possession of Abalone Worth Over R4.4 Million

During the raid, law enforcement officers seized 10,510 units of wet and dry abalone, weighing approximately 1,061 kilograms and valued at over R4.4 million.
Seized Equipment and Evidence
In addition to the abalone, authorities confiscated a range of equipment used in the illegal operation, including cooking pots, gas tanks, industrial fans, and a notebook containing weights and other critical details. Cell phones were also seized as part of the investigation.
Mhlakuvana commended the swift response and coordination between the teams that led to the successful bust.
Court Appearance for the Suspects
The two suspects are expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They will face charges related to the possession and processing of abalone, which contravenes the Marine Living Resources Act.
Efforts to Combat Crime
These two high-profile cases highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in South Africa to combat serious crimes, including violent acts and environmental violations. The arrests serve as a reminder of the importance of community cooperation and vigilance in supporting police investigations.
Authorities continue to call on residents to report illegal activities and provide information that could assist in curbing criminal operations across the country.
