Khayelitsha police officer found guilty of raping 18-year-old woman

The Wynberg Regional Court has found a Khayelitsha police officer guilty of raping an 18-year-old woman.
Police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigating Directorate (IPID) said in July 2018 that three police officers, including Constable Jerome Coetzee, went to a house in the area to search for drugs.
The officers attached to the Lwandle Crime Prevention Unit found three packets of drugs and arrested an 18-year-old woman who was in the house at the time.
The accused, who was driving the police vehicle, dropped his two colleagues at the police station, while the woman they arrested was still in the back of the vehicle.
He then drove to a deserted area where he raped the woman.
IPID’s Phaladi Shuping: “The case was postponed to 29 November 2024, for sentencing.”
