Khama Billiat goal pushes Kaizer Chiefs closer to League Title

Kaizer Chiefs edged closer to the Absa Premiership title with a 1-0 win over Chippa United.

Itumeleng Khune’s return was the headline news for the Chiefs line-up after Daniel Akpeyi was ruled out for the final two games while Lebogang Manyama also returned.

The Soweto giants got off to a perfect start as Samir Nurkovic’s flick-on found Khama Billiat, who poked home from six-yards out for only his second league goal of the campaign.

It was one-way traffic for most of the first as Ernst Middendorp’s pushed for a second goal, with the Chilli Boys trying their best catch a break on the counter.

After a quiet opening, Khune was eventually called into action eight minutes before the break after keeping out Ruzaigh Gamildien’s curling free-kick while Billiat squandered a golden chance to extend Chiefs’ lead at the other end minutes later.

Middendorp was forced to make a change eight minutes after the break as the injured Kgotso Moleko made way for Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

Chippa’s task of getting back in the game suffered a blow after Tercious Malepe was shown a straight red card for bringing down Billiat, who was through on goal.

Despite going down to 10 men, Chippa had the ball in the back of the net on 78 minutes but the strike was ruled for an apparent foul on Khune in the box.

Chippa finished the game with nine men as Elvis Moyo was sent off in the final two for a lunge on Mphahelele.

Nevertheless, the AmaKhosi managed to see out the latter stages of the second to claim three points and remain top heading into the final game of the season on Saturday.
