Kempton Park substation fire contained

An Eskom substation in Kempton Park caught fire on Sunday morning resulting in a power outage in the area. According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the fire resulted in a loss of power in Aston Manor, Cargo and Spartan substations in Kempton Park.

Ekurhuleni emergency services spokesperson William Ntladi says the fire has been contained.

“We managed to use a specialized tool of which is a foam to suppress the fumes from the transformer oil and the diesel itself, definitely we managed to extinguish the blaze,” he said.

Ntladi said 35 firefighters from eight fire stations were on-site to extinguish the blaze.

The City of Ekurhuleni says no casualties have been reported and the cause of the fire will be investigated by Eskom.
