Kelly Khumalo warns fans about her name used to scam event owner
Kelly Khumalo had to respond to a claim of fraud that involves her name – According to an event organiser, her name was used to arrange for a performance – Bhekhani Ndlovu claims he paid Kelly’s sister’s husband, Mhlo Gumede, thousands to have her show up for an event that never happened.
Scams are often pulled in the entertainment world and recently, Kelly Khumalo was allegedly involved in one herself. Not directly – her brother-in-law, Mhlo Gumede, is accused of pulling the wool over an event organiser’s eyes.
ZAlebs reports that it all started when Zandi, Kelly’s sister, performed at Gesh Lounge in 2019. Apparently, things went well and Mhlo offered to have Kelly and Vusi Nova make an appearance as well. Bhekani paid the R17 000 upfront fee for the gig. Here’s what the upset event organiser had to say: “I knew he was Kelly’s brother-in-law and that he used to be with Mabala Noise, and that he’d worked with a lot of big artists such as Vusi Nova. “He gave me Zandi’s banking details. I never queried this because my understanding was that they were working as a team.
I then started making payments into Zandi’s bank account but I realised something was wrong when Mhlo told me not to post anything about the event. “I then asked someone to check with Kelly if she was aware of this event. To my surprise, Kelly had no knowledge of it.” Kelly had to share a statement on social media about the matter, distancing herself from it entirely. “With all due respect, Mhlo Gumede is my sister’s husband and manager, NOT my bookings manager nor part of my team, never was and never will be, so whatever dealings you may have with him Do NOT involve me.
