Katlehong residents call on govt to find solutions to stamp out crime in the area

Katlehong residents on the East Rand are calling on the government to establish a solution to address rampant crime in the area.

They say gun violence and house robberies have become a thorn in the side for community members.

This was expressed during 702’s election town hall meeting in the area earlier on Wednesday.

Dozens of residents gathered to engage political leaders.

Katlehong residents slammed their local police station, claiming its employees are colluding with criminals to allow lawlessness to thrive.

According to the residents, there seems to be no political will to shield Ekurhuleni residents from house robberies, gun violence, and ruthless street criminals.

“If you don’t have a solution for crime, please don’t come to us and lie to us. Because we see police every day taking bribes from drug dealers.”

Another resident echoed the same sentiments.

“Communities are taking community safety into their own hands. For instance, neighbourhood watches are beginning to take over to fill that gap.”

Residents said they’re mostly concerned about the recent spike in cash-in-transit heists in the township.
