Judge Nkola Motata found guilty fined over R1m

Judge Nkola Motata has been found guilty of misconduct and has been fined over R1-million. The fine is equivalent to one year’s salary and will be payable over 24 months.
In 2007, Motata was involved in an accident in Hurlingham in Johannesburg. He was convicted of drunk driving and fined R20,000.
The judge was suspended from the bench on full pay. He retired last year, but still enjoys all the benefits afforded to a judge, including a salary for life.

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has announced a further extension to the consultation process around the future of e-tolls to give stakeholders time to consult with their respective interest groups. But civil society group Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) criticised the minister for the postponement. CEO Wayne Duvenage said Mbalula was the seventh minister of transport to deal with the matter without success.
“He is trying to grapple with his failed scheme. As far as we are concerned this project has failed. The more they delay, the more it costs the taxpayer.” According to Duvenage, e-tolls were the most discussed matter between government and civil society. Read more
