Judge John Hlophe accepts Chief Justice nomination

Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe at the tribunal investigating allegations of misconduct against him held in Kempton Park on September 30, 2013. In 2008, Hlophe was accused of trying to influence the Constitutional Court.

This is despite his suspension and possible impeachment. In 2008, two Constitutional Court judges exposed how Hlophe approached them to influence a case involving former President Jacob Zuma and French arms dealer Thales.

The Judicial Services Commission was expected to meet to decide whether or not they will recommend his suspension to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
