Jub Jub’s rape case postponed to April
The case against ex-convict and controversial media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanyane has been postponed yet again to 23 April.
Maarohanyane returned to the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday following his last appearance earlier in February.
He is facing 13 criminal charges, including rape, indecent assault, kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Accompanied by an entourage made up of his friends and legal representatives – the defamed, previously charged, and convicted star made a brief appearance.
His legal counsel revealed that they would like to escalate his matter to a higher office within the National Prosecuting Authority: the office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions.
In July 2023, Jub Jub handed himself over to the police before his arrest.
The 2023 arrest stemmed from charges levelled against him by several women dating back to as early as 2006.
Magistrate Betty Khumalo allowed for the postponement, extending his R10,000 bail.
“Your case is still pending the representations outcome since your lawyer and counsel have decided to escalate it to the DPP‘s office. So, it is now remanded to the 23rd of April at 8:30.”
Jub Jub refused to speak to the publication about the case or the reason for the escalation of the matter against him.
