Jose Riveiro expects tough test from Galaxy

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro anticipates that TS Galaxy will be highly motivated to beat them at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening. The Rockets will have their tails up after reaching the Carling Knockout final following a thrilling 3-2 victory over AmaZulu in Durban last weekend to book a date with Stellenbosch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 16 December.

Riveiro’s side ran out 2-0 victors against Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows on Tuesday to extend their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership to four matches, three of those ending in wins.

The Buccaneers climbed up to sixth in the standings, four points outside the CAF places, and they’ll be looking to put pressure on the frontrunners by finishing the year strongly.

However, Riveiro doesn’t expect Galaxy to roll over for them after making it to the final of the new-look League Cup and knocking out favourites Mamelodi Sundowns along the way.Congratulations to Galaxy for making it to the final. They are probably going to come here in a very good mood,” the Spaniard said.

“As usual they will have that extra motivation that teams have when they come to Orlando… it’s going to be tough.”

Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic continues to do a good job despite the lack of financial clout at the club, which means they aren’t able to hold onto their best players.

Melusi Buthelezi, Given Msimango, Bathusi Aubaas and Tshegofatso Nyama all moved on to greener pastures in the off-season, but Ramovic has still managed to keep the results ticking in 2023-24.

The Mpumalanga outfit are just two points adrift of the top eight in 11th spot after dispatching Polokwane City 3-0 on 26 November to arrest back-to-back defeats in the top flight.
