#JohnVuliGate goes International

Amapiano duo Mapara A Jazz have stormed their way into the global charts with their hit song ‘John Vuli Gate‘ featuring Colano and Ntosh Gaz. They have secured their spot on the Shazam global charts top 50, sitting comfortably at number 46.

The song is the reason behind the current dance craze that went viral, all thanks to a group of young girls who decided to take on the challenge at a petrol station.

South Africans have put their own on the map, this according to a American music-identification application owned by Apple Inc, who said that the songs’ success on Shazam is all because of the country’s subscribers.

Even locally, the song has positioned itself at the top of the charts with over 62 radio stations bumping their song, 252 times this week. This according to Radiomonitor.

They are sitting at number one, after a major jump from number 1 136, that’s massive! All of this in a space of five days.
Perhaps this achievement is owed to the beautiful group of girls who were celebrating a friends birthday. Their innocent video of them having fun made a larger impact by making the dance challenge go viral and grow their bank accounts.

Their video opened a window of opportunities for them as they got calls from clothing brands and alcoholic companies wanting to work with them. And now, the musos behind the song want to shoot the music video with them.

The duo wants to work with the ladies who made it all happen, Tshegofatso Maepa, Katlego Mohlahlo, Kgomotso Aphane, Oratilwe Mokwatlo and Lebogang Motalane who hail from Mpumalanga.

We are in contact with them and we are trying to arrange reshoots to feature them. We want them in the video and add them to what we have already. So many people have requested it and we are trying to make it happen. Nothing is confirmed yet, but we are in discussions to accommodate them,” Colano told Sowetan Live.

In a statement the duo wrote: “We are so pleased to have our song John Vuli Gate become a major trend in South Africa. To have people Shazam our song around the world is a dream come true for us. People all over are taking part in the dance challenge of John Vuli Gate and loving the song. We are very happy to debut in Shazam’s charts and reach the Global Top 50. It shows people are really loving our music and want to stream it.”

Speaking to Daily Sun, the ladies who captured a moment where they were having fun at a petrol station and went viral instantly, said the video’s impact went beyond even their wildest dreams.
