Joburg police probing after man’s body found in sewage line in Newlands

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified man whose body was found in a sewage line in Newlands, Johannesburg.

The body was recovered on Wednesday afternoon following a search operation by members of the Johannesburg Emergency Management Service (EMS) after being called to the scene by workers who were conducting repair work in the area.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) now has the tough task of identifying the victim, while also trying to determine the cause of his death.

Officials went on the search after the body was spotted by workers from Johannesburg Water and the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), who were conducting the repair work.

Police requested anyone with information that may assist their investigation to come forward.
