Joburg officials reclaim hijacked JMPD impound

Johannesburg officials have reclaimed a Johannesburg Metro Police Department impound that had been hijacked.

Officials reclaimed the property and arrested 20 people.

Those arrested are contractors and workers who were repurposing the property.

“Upon arrival, we found contractors and private security and they were building structures behind us. Fortunately through the accounting officer and the JMPD department as led by, politically, the MMC, and the chief of police responded swiftly,” said Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda.

Officials were inspecting buildings across Johannesburg following the deadly Marshalltown fire.

77 people died when the Usindiso building went up in flames.
