SAPS: No arrests made in JHB taxi torching

Police say no arrests have been made yet following Saturday’s incident where several taxis were torched in the Johannesburg CBD.
In a separate incident, two other taxis were set alight in Soweto.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela says while details are still sketchy, taxi violence in the province is concerning.
Mawela said, “what we know is that it’s an ongoing dispute between the two taxi associations and it has been going on for some time, the MEC was engaging the two associations to find an amicable solution.”
“So today we were surprised when we see people burn each other’s taxis. What I can report is in JHB there were six taxis which were damaged, four of which were burnt down, but we’ve also learned that in Soweto there is two which were burnt down…”
