Jacob Zuma supporters start own party

Jacob Zuma supporters start own party. People Against Petrol and Paraffin Increase leader Bishop Bheki Ngcobo will launch his party in Durban on Friday.

After being sidelined by the ANC at former president Jacob Zuma’s court appearance in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday, his supporters have decided to form their own party.

Ngcobo told Daily Sun they decided to turn their organisation into a political party so it could continue to fight for the poor. He said it was vital to be represented in parliament, as that was where decisions were made.

Ngcobo, who is also a leader of the National Interfaith Council of SA, which has been organising people to go and support Zuma when he appears in court, was prevented from talking to people outside court last Friday.

His organisation, along with other business forums as well as Andile Mngxitama’s Black First Land First, were also stopped from sitting next to Zuma.

Ngcobo said although they were disappointed, they had put that behind them. He said they would unveil their manifesto and all party representatives on Friday. He said they would contest the elections next year.

“We have been fighting these petrol increases, but we are not seeing the difference. The government failed to listen to the poor.”

Ngcobo said when petrol increased to its highest level a few months ago, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a ministerial task team led by Energy Minister Jeff Radebe and gave them three months to come up with ways to protect consumers, but nothing had been done.
