Itumeleng Khune keen to be reunited with Lebese at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune is said to be trying to convince the club to bring winger George Lebese back to Naturena. Reports suggest that Khune approached the club’s management to discuss Lebese’s possible return to Chiefs.

Lebese, who left Chiefs in August 2017, was released by Mamelodi Sundowns on transfer deadline, after a frustrating two seasons at the Pretoria-based club.

“After Sundowns released Lebese, his friend Khune spoke to [Kaizer] Motaung on his behalf to re-sign him,” a source told Isolezwe.

“But it seems Motaung still holds a grudge over Lebese deciding to join Sundowns a few seasons ago.

“Motaung, however, still has to speak to coach Ernst Middendorp [about whether or not to sign Lebese]. Khune will also meet the coach to find out if it is possible to have him back.”

Lebese, who is currently a free agent, has not ruled out the possibility of going back to Chiefs in the past.
