PA leader says he is being framed for inciting violence

One of the first people arrested for inciting public violence during the week of unrest is a regional leader of the opposition party, the Patriotic Alliance.
The PA’s West Rand leader Bruce Nimmerhoudt has made his first appearance on charges of inciting violence in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court.
He was arrested after allegedly instructing people to block roads as part of the unrest.
But, he says he’s being framed.
A WhatsApp voice note led police to believe Nimmerhoudt is one of the instigators of last week’s unrest.
According to his political party, that’s not Nimmerhoudt’s voice.
“It is a fact that even law enforcement knows. It’s not a political party that now says no because it’s our leader, we don’t believe that is his voice, no,” said Ley Sauls.
“It is factual that the voice that they claim is leader Nimmerhoudt is not true.”
The NPA says it’s still investigating Nimmerhoudt’s role in what President Cyril Ramaphosa has described as an insurrection.
The case will be back in court next Monday for a bail application.
