Improper use of Disinfectants – Dettol is NOT FOR DRINKING

Dettol is not for Drinking

Reckitt Benckiser (RB) the makers of Dettol and Lysol have issued a strong warning telling people not to inject or drink disinfectant after President Donald Trump contradicted experts and wrongly suggested it could be ingested to treat coronavirus.

The company issued the below statement as a warning to everyone who might be considering drinking or injecting themselves with Dettol.

Due to recent speculation and social media activity, RB (the makers of Lysol and Dettol) has been asked whether internal administration of disinfectants may be appropriate for investigation or use as a treatment for coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route).  As with all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Please read the label and safety information.

Here is a few more information on Dettol that most of you are thinking about.

Is Dettol poisonous to humans?

Dettol has three main compounds: chloroxylenol, pine oil and castor oil. … But chloroxylenol is poisonous and should not be ingested. While not considered that toxic to humans (unless swallowed), chloroxylenol does kill fish.

What happens if a person drinks Dettol?

Otherwise, if this is just hypothetical, Dettol is very, very dangerous if ingested. It can severely compromise your airway, which can lead to all sorts of respiratory conditions and complications. Your body considers it a poison and will react to it that way.
