Dept of Education says rolling blackouts impacting pupils

The Basic Education Department says rolling blackouts could have a negative effect on Grade 12 pupils.
According to department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga, camps for Grade 12 learners have been negatively affected.
“Schools might be closed but our Grade 12 learners are in camps. So they need electricity where they are,” he said.
“So we need it right now, it’s not about when schools are open. We need electricity everywhere right now.
“We are in engagement with Eskom. We talk to them all the time, even during examinations we always ask them to protect certain areas where we keep our papers.”
