Licence of security company behind illegal Libyan military camp suspended

The private security company behind an illegal Libyan military camp in Mpumalanga has had its operating licence suspended.

Military Dei Security Services (MDSS) is a security training company that has been registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) since 2019.

In a media briefing on Wednesday, the regulator announced the company was using its base in White River as a front for an unaccredited military camp for Libyan nationals.

So far, 95 Libyans have been arrested for the illegal military camp.

However, PSiRA said it would be opening criminal cases against the local owners of MDSS.

PSiRA’s CEO, Manabela Chauke, said the security company was in violation of several criminal statutes.

“The next process is the consideration of charges and the formal prosecution of the service providers and the individuals involved in the contravention of the code of conduct. Of course we will also proffer criminal charges against them.”

Chauke said the regulator was co-operating with the National Prosecuting Authority.
