The Independent Examination Board says it’s not concerned about a slight decline in matric results. The class of 2019 achieved a 98,82 percent pass rate.
IEB CEO Anne Oberholzer says not every pupil should pursue a university education.
She encouraged pupils to pursue vocational education and training.
“Not everybody should or can go to university. If you look at our economy, our economy doesn’t work only on university graduates, there’s a whole range of economic activity that doesn’t require university, so your technicians, your IT…that isn’t lesser learning,” said Oberholzer.
“It’s equally important for our society to have the vocational streams and academic streams,” she added.
Meanwhile, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will announce the results of the 2019 National Senior Certificate on Tuesday afternoon.
