Half-time: Iran 0-0 Spain Iran are delighted. Spain are frustrated. This has been an excellent defensive performance from the underdogs, who have restricted Spain to barely any chances. Fernando Hierro’s attacking talents have been completely neutralised. Just as well Roy Keane never took Carlos Queiroz’s head off.
Iran are managing to stifle Spain effectively here. Hierro’s men have around 80% possession but have only one shot on target to show for it. The Asian team are defending well in numbers and look organised. But can they keep doing this for the entire ninety minutes?
A half of frustration that for Spain. For all the possession they have enjoyed, Iran has negated it by having men behind the ball. Diego Costa has not been able to get on the ball much but he did manage to get on the toes of the goalkeeper (up to his usual antics). Iran hasn’t threatened much either but will be happy with this. Spain needs some urgency in their attack. Marco Asensio probably? Who knows…
