GIWUSA to hold mass meeting to address housing crisis in Johannesburg

The General Industries Workers Union of South Africa (GIWUSA) is set to hold a mass meeting at the Usindiso Building in Marshalltown to address the housing crisis in Johannesburg.
The union said the meeting is meant to reflect on the ongoing commission of inquiry into the building fire that killed 77 people last August.
GIWUSA said the City of Johannesburg is faced with a deepening housing crisis that needed to be addressed urgently.
It said Saturday’s meeting is also meant to highlight the living conditions of the Usindiso fire survivors, who have been placed in temporary housing in Denver.
The inquiry into the fire is still ongoing, with one suspect under arrest for allegedly starting the fire.
This comes after the suspect confessed to starting the deadly blaze in January while testifying at the commission.
