8-year-old KZN boy shot twice during house robbery

An eight-year-old boy and his father were shot during a home invasion at their home in Emona, KZN, on Thursday night.

Prem Balram, the spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), said they received a call for assistance at around 11 pm.

On arrival, Balram said the child was found lying on the floor inside the house.

He said the boy suffered two gunshot wounds to his left leg. His 32-year-old father was shot twice on his right hand.

“It was established that the [father] heard a knock on the door. As he approached the entrance, multiple shots were fired which penetrated the aluminum door and struck the man and his son. His wife and four-year-old daughter were also in the [one-room] house at the time of the shooting however they were not injured.

“According to the [father], three suspects forced their way into their home.

“Two of the robbers brandished firearms and demanded valuables. They stole four cellphones, shoes, and R50 in cash before they fled.”

Balram said the man and his son were taken to hospital. Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered on the scene.

The Witness recently reported that two girls, aged five and 14 years old, were shot during a house robbery in Caluza, Pietermaritzburg, on Wednesday night.

The 14-year-old was shot on the side of her stomach and the five-year-old suffered a gunshot wound above her ear. The children were taken to the hospital.
