SAPS probe fatal hospital shooting

Investigations are underway into the cause of Saturday night’s deadly shooting at the New Somerset Hospital in Cape Town.

A police officer was escorting a patient at the hospital when another man grabbed his gun.

The man opened fire, killing two patients and wounding the policeman.

The officer passed away in hospital.

A matron at New Somerset Hospital is said to be responsible for calming down the gun-wielding patient.

The Western Cape Health Department has applauded the nurse.

It says the hospital staff will be receiving counselling.
