Home Affairs Minister says one operation at a time, authorities must restore rule of law

Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber said authorities must restore the rule of law, one operation at a time.

Schreiber said the department is on the ground ensuring that anyone who breaches immigration laws is processed through the court.

His comments follow the discovery of an illegal military training camp in Mpumalanga on Friday.

A multidisciplinary operation uncovered the camp on a secluded farm in White River, where 95 Libyan nationals were arrested.

In addition to military-grade training equipment, drugs and other contraband were discovered at the camp.

The Department of Home Affairs said the group entered South Africa through Tunisia using fraudulent visas.

“The visa cancellation means that all the affected Libyans are now undocumented foreign nationals,” said spokesperson Siya Qoza.

“Minister Schreiber has instructed all departments to support the multidisciplinary effort fully.”
