Position Overview:
The Head of Controlling will be required to have overall understanding of the business and its performance enabling him/her to give detailed feedback & transparency of all financial aspects of the business.
The HOD Controlling will be a key partner to the Business Lines, allowing them to make informed decisions using the information supplied by the Controlling team which was converted from data.
This position reports directly in to the CFO.
Job Description:
Internal Systems and Procedures:
Perform the tasks of Risk Management Manager by monitoring and evaluating relevant risks and recording them in the bi-annual risk inventory.
Costing and Rates:
Working closely with CFO in the development, implementation and execution of financial policies and procedures regarding costing, recoveries and rate analysis.
Ensure charge out rates are correctly and timeously calculated (annually)
Maximize recoveries
Continuous investigation and correction
Month End Reporting:
Provide management with relevant financial information and controls
Supervise the monthly Group reporting
Review all general ledger reconciliations related to projects on a monthly basis
Review SAP@Cons
Review consolidation
Review and correction of GL mapping in SAP to ensure meaningful and accurate financial reporting
Ensure properly balanced reporting between SAP@Cons & SAP
Preparation of monthly management accounts
Variance analysis of monthly results
Monthly and quarterly forecasting as required by Group
Ensure all reporting and financial recording are accurate and in line with local and international reporting calendars
Development of additional meaningful reports
Budgeting:
Preparation of budget plan documentation in line with local and international reporting calendars
Preparation of reporting templates to collate budgeting information from various Business Lines
Aggregation of budget information
Preparation of annual budget pack
Establish proper balance sheet forecasting
Effective Cost Control:
Define and analyse Key Performance Indicators and suggest measures to improve performance
Review of current cost control measures
Development of monthly cost reporting
Establishing forum to discuss actual vs budget costing
Systems Developments:
Development of meaningful financial reports for business
Development of suitable and required interface between accounting (SAP) and reporting system (SAP@Cons) to facilitate automated month end reporting
Facilitate proper interface between various cost centres and finance reporting
Ad Hoc:
Execution of additional tasks as agreed with CFO and ExCo.
Ensuring all ad hoc requirements and deadlines are met
Supervise, Develop and Train Personnel:
Effective management of all controlling team members
Keep up to date with continued professional development
Performance management – ensure all Controlling staff are adequately trained to perform duties
Ensure succession planning, career path and performance management contracts are in place for each controlling team member
Uphold team spirit
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Commerce or similar degree – CA qualification preferred
Experience an ERP system implementation – ideally SAP
Advanced Excel
Extensive SAP system experience
