Gospel singer Hlengiwe Mhlaba honoured for her good deeds

Gospel star Hlengiwe Mhlaba’s good work has been recognised.

The singer has received a certificate of appreciation from Ungazibulali Awareness Campaign on Saturday, 1 January.

She was awarded with an ambassador certificate for supporting the programme.

Hlengiwe was recognised for working tirelessly to bring back hope to people by providing counselling and giving talks through the international campaign against depression and suicide.

Campaign founder Nkululeko Khanyi said Hlengiwe has been a pillar of strength for this project for the past nine years in all their community programmes against depression, and those who wanted to kill themselves.

He said: “She has been working exceptionally. She deserves this recognition.”

Hlengiwe said the award meant a lot to her.

“Giving back to the community is all I want to do, be it through talks or through music. Being recognised for it is a bonus.”

The gospel star pleaded with people to never keep quiet when something was bothering them. “Speak to someone. That might save you.”

Other people who were honoured on the day were media personality Thami Ngubeni, radio presenter Criselda Kananda, actor Muzi Mthabela and former SA FM presenter, Khanyi Magubaneare.
