HHP’s family and his widow, Lerato Sengadi, will once again take each other on in court – This comes as the family still refuses to accept and recognise Lerato as HHP’s legal and true wife – The family says the “handing over” of the bride never happened.
Lerato Sengadi isn’t recognised by the family of Jabulani Tsambo, better known as HHP, as his wife. The Tsambo family and Lerato have been involved in an ongoing dispute over her status and it will continue this year. Lerato previously took the family to High Court and was declared HHP’s legal wife, but this was not enough for them. The Supreme Court of Appeal will now hear the case in March this year.
The matters that will be heard include issues such as whether a valid customary marriage was concluded and if the handing over of the bride was a requirement for a valid customary marriage. As reported on by The Star, HHP’s father admitted that R30 000 was paid in lobola at Lerato’s home in Soweto. However, he insists that the customary process was not completed.
Earlier, it was reported that while there was no tombstone at HHP’s grave in 2019, Lerato rejected calls for crowdfunding to place one. Some of HHP’s friends visited the late singer’s resting place and fans couldn’t help but notice that there was no tombstone. Lerato told the concerned peeps that it is a matter they should take up with his family but added that she would do her best to erect a stone that suits HHP.
