He might be gone but rapper HHP’s music lives on.
To celebrate what would have been his 40th birthday, a new remix of his 2014 hit Nkaofa will be released on Tuesday 14 September.
The track titled Nkaofa 2.0, features amapiano superstar Focalistic.
HHP’s wife Lerato Sengadi said the song was a celebration of the rapper, whose real name was Jabulani Tsambo, also known as Jabba. “The idea behind the song was that I wanted to do something special for his birthday. I always want to celebrate his birthday in the way I would if he was here,” she said.
“The song has been a year in the making. I thought what summer without Jabba would be like again and I thought no way, I’m dropping it before summer hits.”
Lerato said Focalistic was the perfect artist to feature on the track as he reminded her of Jabba.
“Watching him is like watching a young Jabba.
“He himself said Jabu was someone he looked up to and learnt so much from.
“He worked with Thaso Thasman, who worked with Jabba.
“I knew he would know what Jabba would have wanted.”
Lerato said Jabba visited her in a dream and told her this was what he wanted. “People will stop asking what summer will be like without Jabba. We released this song just in time as people know he always owned the summer,” she said.
“This is such a vibey song and people will love it because it’s iconic.
“Please download this song and play it in cars, at braais, baby showers and everywhere.”
Lerato said fans could expect more songs from the late artist.
“One of my purposes is to keep his legacy alive. Just because he is not physically here does not mean he won’t be here. As long as I am here, his music will be heard,” she said.
