Role: HGV Driver / Mechanic
Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): 5231 – Vehicle Technicians, Mechanics and Electricians
Location: United Kingdom
Responsibilities:
Diagnosing engine and mechanical faults through visual checks, test drives, and the use of test equipment
Removing, dismantling, repairing, and replacing defective parts and preparing new parts using appropriate tools
Reassembling, testing, adjusting, and tuning the appropriate parts, systems, or the entire engine
Conducting routine maintenance checks on oil and air filters, brakes, and other vehicle parts/systems
Diagnosing faults in electrical/electronic circuitry, removing faulty components, and fitting replacements
Checking the condition of electrical/electronic systems and carrying out servicing tasks
Installing additional electrical amenities such as radio/CD players, aerials
Repairing and servicing air conditioning, heating, and engine-cooling systems
Entry Requirements:
Formal qualification in a relevant field (GCSEs/S grades or an equivalent qualification) would be beneficial
Hands-on training or apprenticeships at NVQ/SVQ Levels 2 and 3, or similar qualifications
Proven experience as an HGV mechanic, vehicle technician, or a similar role
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Effective communication skills
Able to work in a team as well as individually
