Hawks arrest Eastern Cape Health Dept spokesperson on charges of fraud, forgery & uttering

The Hawks have arrested Eastern Cape’s Department of Health spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, on charges of fraud, forgery, and uttering.
It’s alleged that in March 2002, Kupelo applied for a job at the Office of the Premier in Bhisho as a communications officer and was employed the following month.
In November of the same year, he was appointed by the Department of Health in Bhisho as the deputy director of communications.
The Hawks said in 2020, the department conducted a skills and qualifications audit, and it was established that Kupelo never had a matric certificate, and allegedly submitted a fraudulent one.
Kupelo was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in the Zwelitsha Magistrates Court where he was released on R30,000 bail.
He is expected back in the dock next Tuesday.
