Here’s why Zimbabweans are the most hated foreigners in SA…according to Twitter

After a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks that saw Elvis Nyathi 44 year old a Zimbabwean getting killed and burnt in broad daylight by a mob in South Africa, tweeps have taken to social media to weigh in on why Zimbabweans are the most hated immigrants.

The conversation on how Zimbabweans became the single most hated immigrant group in SA started after a social media user only identified as Chipo Dendere posed a question to her followers on Twitter.

The tweet attracted a lot of engagement as tweeps mostly Zimbabweans shared their views on why South Africans hate them so much. A number of tweeps echoed that a majority of Zimbabweans in South Africa have an inflated sense of self, are condescending, and undermine South Africans by labeling them uneducated and lazy.

Some attributed the high crime rate in SA to being perpetuated by Zimbabweans. However, some opined that one of the reasons could be due to the fact there are too many Zimbabweans in Mzansi and the citizens find themselves having to compete for jobs and resources with Zimbabwean immigrants.

Here are some of the responses:

Thandekile Moyo: There are too many Zimbabweans in South Africa. That usually makes the host community feel suffocated, Threatened, They feel permeated by Zimbabweans, Pervaded. It’s one thing to have a few immigrants in your community, Another to feel like they have “taken over”.

Runyararo Mherekumombe: 1. Lack of respect for hosts.

2. We’re not enterprising, we compete for what they want (jobs)

3. We’re too many, in their faces

4. We turned Joburg into a hell hole

5. We don’t fix our problems as community, we deny we cause problems like crime

Sandile Zulu: The entitlement we have as a country, calling the locals uneducated and stuff.

Vincet K: I think generally we’re so full of ourselves, so condescending & we look down on our hosts, from statements such as; havana kudzidza, havadi kushanda inyope etc. We see ourselves as superior to them & that irks them. Gaya muenzi auya mumba mako kunokumbira hupfu otokuita saskamu

Ukanki: I think it’s the placement. SA has a high school dropout rate meaning most qualify for the same jobs most Zim’s are doing. Also since they also don’t have much they share space same space. Basically they compete for same scarce resources which is leading to this

Madakurahwa Bodeni: But chokwadi vamwe vedu varikupara mhosva dzisingataurike muzudhu umu. Zvimwe zvacho unotoshaya kuti maZimba akazosvika kuita vanasatani kudai sei. Parepiwa nekuuraya vanhu muzimba aripo, paitwa CIT muzimba aripo, armed robbery muzimba aripo, kubata ngunzi muzimba aripo, too bad.
