DA’s Gwen Ngwenya refuses MP seat

The Democratic Alliance’s former policy head Gwen Ngwenya has announced that she won’t be taking up her seat in Parliament.

In a tweet, Ngwenya said she’s opting to analyse policy and explore the tech world.

Former DA leader and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille was among the first to comment, saying Ngwenya’s departure was a huge loss for the team.

In January, Ngwenya resigned from her role over the party’s lack of interest in policy.

Ngwenya stated her reasons in an explosive letter to party leader Mmusi Maimane, saying her job description had never been defined and she was not given the resources or access to do her work effectively.
