Bodies of 3 men found with gunshot wounds in Eastern Cape

Police are investigating three counts of murder after the bodies of three men were discovered with gunshot wounds in the small Eastern Cape town of Indwe.

Police probe murders

This comes after police were summoned on Wednesday, to a complaint of a shooting incident at the Main Road in Mzamo Township.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said when police arrived on the scene, they found the bodies of the men with gunshot wounds lying on the road.

“The circumstances surrounding the murders are unknown at this stage and a case of murder (three counts) was opened for further investigation,” said Nkohli in a statement.

Taxi boss gunned down

In an unrelated incident, a 52-year-old taxi owner succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds on Wednesday, after being rushed to a local hospital in Butterworth.

It is alleged that the man was waiting for his lift to arrive when unknown suspects shot him several times before fleeing.

Nkohli said a second victim, who was attempting to assist the taxi owner, was also shot and wounded.

“The motive behind these attacks is unknown. Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in both these cases to contact the investigating team on 082 301 7762.”

Eastern Cape provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, said detectives will not rest until the perpetrators behind the murders are arrested and brought before a court.

“We appeal to members of the community to come forth with any information that can lead to the speedy arrest of these ruthless and callous killers. Information can be communicated anonymously via Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.”
