Policeman critical after being gunned down in Umlazi

KwaZulu-Natal: At 06H18 Sunday morning Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting on Mgaga Road in Umlazi K section South of Durban.

Reports from the scene indicate that an adult male policeman alleged to be off duty at the time sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

It was reported by members of the public on the scene that the police officer had been waiting for transport when the incident occurred.

When Netcare 911 Paramedics arrived on the scene they found the patient lying on the floor in a critical condition.

The patient was stabilized on the scene by a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner.

Due to the serious nature of the patients’ condition, a Netcare 911 helicopter ambulance was activated to airlift the man to the hospital.

Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
