ANC to meet over Gumede standoff

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is expected to meet with the party’s national leadership to discuss the standoff with Zandile Gumede.

Gumede revoked her resignation as eThekwini mayor after her party redeployed her.

The party announced it was recalling Gumede at a media briefing.

It appears as if Gumede, who’s currently on R50, 000 bail for fraud and racketeering, made the ANC provincial leadership believe that she would comply with its decision and resign.

Gumede backtracked and withdrew her resignation in an unprecedented move that didn’t sit well with the party.

KZN ANC chairperson Sihle Zikalala insists eThekwini will have a new mayor, come Wednesday.

“We’re confident that the meeting will go on….by Wednesday we’d have sorted this issue and have the new mayor and exco to take the council forward…the ANC mandate will have to be implemented,” Zikalala said.
