Drivers’ licenses that expired from 26 March 2020 to 31 December 2020 have been extended for a seven-month grace period.
According to the latest Government Gazette, learners’ licenses, driving license cards, temporary license cards, and professional driving permits are deemed valid for a grace period ending 31 August 2021.
License discs are not included in the grace period.
License renewals have been negatively affected by the lockdown, with centres struggling to handle backlogs of thousands of licenses.
There have also been complaints about allocating slots for driving license renewals.
