Pravin Gordhan hits back at Mkhwebane

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan is rubbishing findings of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkwhebane.

In a statement from the minister’s lawyers, Gordhan says the Public Protector continues to get the facts wrong and that he has serious misgivings about Mkwebane’s conduct. The Public Protector is biased, she continues to get the facts wrong,” the statement read.

The Public Enterprises Minister has instructed his legal team to prepare an urgent review of the report.

Mkhwebane found that Gordhan, during his tenure as the Commissioner of SARS, violated the Constitution by allowing the establishment of the “Rogue Unit”.

She has ordered President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action against Gordhan within 30 days.

The EFF has welcomed the Public Protector’s findings.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA’s) shadow minister of Public Enterprises, Natasha Mazzone, said on Friday that President Cyril Ramaphosa is bound by the Public Protector’s (PP’s) report on Minister Pravin Gordhan and would have to take remedial action or take it on review.
