Gold One Mine management says situation getting critical

The situation at the Gold One Mine in Springs is reaching critical levels.

Over 400 miners are refusing to surface for the third day.

Among them are about 70 middle managers and contractors who are being held against their will.

Mine management says they are sending water and medication down, but food has run out.

“We have not heard much information coming out from underground over the last seven or eight hours,” said spokesperson Ziyaad Hassam.

“So, we have received reports of yesterday, the situation is getting critical.

“We are sending water and medication down but food has obviously ran out.”
